Kiwi Smoothie from Weelicious Pin

Mothers teach us SO many things — some would argue everything. For me, childhood trips to the grocery and learning about the general nutritional and health benefits of fruits, vegetables and other foods definitely came from my mother — so did my ability to always find the best bargains (see Mom, everything). I remember the first time my mother held up this brown, fuzzy piece of fruit to me and told me how special it was. That was probably 30 years ago, when kiwis were harder to find, and today I truly realize how lucky we are to have gorgeous, reasonably priced kiwis readily at our disposal.

We came up with this recipe for a contest we’ve entered with Zespri Kiwifruit. Kenya and I are HUGE kiwi fans not only because of their bright green color and yummy taste, but because they’re also packed with vitamin C and E, potassium and folic acid. So when we heard about this contest, we knew we had to do something!

So today, in honor of my mother’s birthday and her favorite fruit, we’re making up a huge batch of these refreshing kiwi smoothies. Cheers!

Comments

  1. Yes, you can use any size banana you have on hand! Add more or less than the recipe calls for depending on your tastes!

  2. So I retried with rice milk and she loved it just like everything else off this it! The rice milk didn’t make it bitter…was wondering if I can save leftover in fridge for tomorrow?

  3. Did you use cow’s milk? Acidic fruits, like kiwi, can cause a strange reaction to happen and sometimes turns out with a slightly bitter taste. If you use a milk alternative for this recipe that won’t happen!

  4. The banana is what gives the smoothies its thick and creamy texture. You can put in about 4 large strawberries or 5-6 small strawberries in your smoothie. It will be a little watery but I’m sure it will be delish!!

  5. I’ve never made smoothies before, this will be my first. I have a bunch of strawberries and kiwis and was wondering how many strawberries would I substitute for the one banana?
