Apple Puff Pastry Tart
After spending precious time making your kids’ dinner or lunch, many of us resort to opening a box of cookies or other such snacks to satisfy our little ones’ sweet cravings. I get it. But most pre-packaged desserts contain stuff we likely don’t want your kids eating on a regular basis, so at weelicious I put a premium on coming up with ideas for super simple desserts for Kenya and his friends that aren’t packed with sugar and are hopefully just as easy for you to make as opening a tin of Sara Lee cake is. I think these apple puff pastry tarts fit the bill. They are delicious and so perfect to make at this time of year.
Many different varieties of apples are all over our farmer’s market this fall and Kenya has been eating them up left and right. I think he eats a tree’s worth of free samples every weekend. The best part about making this recipe is that you probably have most of the ingredients on hand already, so you can have this treat on the table in no time flat! These will be a huge hit with everyone and think of all the money you’ll save not buying Oreos.
Apple Puff Pastry Tarts (Makes 6 Tarts)
1 Sheet Puff Pastry (1/2 package), defrosted and cut into 12 squares
1/4 Cup Applesauce
2 Tbsp Butter, cut into tiny pieces
1 Large Apple, peeled and sliced very thin (I used gala)
1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tbsp Agave Nectar
1. Place the puff pastry squares on a parchment, silpat or foil lined baking sheet.
2. Cover each piece of puff pastry with 1 tsp of applesauce leaving a 1/4 inch boarder.
3. Place the butter in a bowl and melt (I used the microwave).
4. Place the apple slices, cinnamon and agave in the bowl with the butter and toss to combine.
5. Layer 6 apples on each piece of pastry.
6. Drizzle the remaining juice on top of the apples.
7. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
8. Serve.
