Not sure what to serve at your Halloween party this year? How about giving everyone the finger? That joke may be in poor taste, but these cheese wafers aren’t.

I don’t know how else to describe them, but whether you’re having a get together this Halloween or just want to make something a bit gnarly looking — but delicious, I assure you — these fingers will be a hit!

Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Lb or 2 Cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese, grated
  • 5 Tbsp unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Cup Raw Almonds, slivered or whole blanched

Instructions

  • Place the first 3 ingredients in a food processor and pulse to combine (dough may be a bit crumbly, but it will stick together).
  • Take a piece of dough and mold into a “finger” shape. Then place 1 slice of almond on the top of the “finger tip” for the “nail”. Press almonds down well into fingers to make sure they stay.
  • Refrigerate fingers for 1 hour or overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 375 F.
  • Place fingers on a parchment paper or Silpat-lined baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Let fingers cool on sheet for 2 minutes before removing.
  • Serve.

  1. Bravo! This is an awesome recipe. The fingers were creepy AND delicious. Upon baking them, the blanched whole almonds became a creepy, crunchy brown. They were a hit at the party and I was asked for the recipe!
To those who find the dough to by dry and crumbly- that’s the way mine was too. When you start molding them into finger shapes, the warmth from your hands will soften the dough. It might take a little time but they are worth it! So delish!

  2. Tips for anyone having trouble: be sure to use fancy/finely shredded cheese. Also, mine works better with the butter warmer than room temp. I put mine in the microwave on low for about 12 seconds. Finally, I use wax paper to help me roll the fingers into shape. It works better than rolling in my hands and I can work faster. The dough can dry out pretty quickly.

  3. Sometimes I feel the need to come to a cabin with you, and have an adventure with you.but right now? All i long to do is sit next to you on a front porch. That’s all.Oh my frneid. I’m sorry for your loss, so very sorry.

  4. Eek! I’ve got the same problem! I just made a double batch but my “dough” isn’t sticking together AT all! Not sure what to do.

  5. I’m finding that the dough isn’t sticking together at all. I’ve blended the first 3 ingredients for several minutes and all I have is an off white color flour in my processor. No water? Milk?

  6. they are not fully sticking together”. what should I ad more of?? I used half ww flour and half all purpose.

  7. Is it possible to replace the white flour completely or at least partly with whole wheat flour or will the fingers become too dense?

  8. i packed the dough into a tablespoon and made beetles. the best part is that they tasted soooo good. Thank you for this recipe, easy and fabulous!

  9. Delicious! I just pulled these out of the oven and they turned out great! They were so simple and it tastes like crackers and cheese all in one! Thanks for this yummy treat!
Also in case anyone is wondering I used whole wheat flour and they worked fine

  10. You could use false nails..they aren’t edible but I think you can find a set at most dollar stores.

  11. Would love to make these for my sons school party, however they have a NO nut policy. Any other ideas to use in place of almonds?

  12. I am confused about the 1 cup of almonds as well. Do they go into the dough, or are they just to make the nails?

  13. It’s too bad we can’t send homemade food to my daughter’s school because these would be perfect!

    Thanks for the recipe.

  14. So clever! I am going to make the Cheese Wafer Fingers and put a spider, or skull, ring on each for my son’s class. Weelicious to the rescue again! : )

  15. I am looking forward to trying these. You used the almonds in the fingers as well as just for the nail? Right? Just making sure!
