Weelicious Lunches is Almost Here!

WeeliciousLunches hc

Last September, when my first book Weelicious: One Family. One Meal. was born (I mean published), I wrote that it felt like I was giving birth to a third child. Well this year I am getting ready to relive that whole experience again with the release of my new book, Weelicious Lunches, and I couldn't feel more lucky.

Since Kenya started preschool almost four years ago, I've photographed his and Chloe's lunches in their Planet Box and LapTop lunch boxes and posted them everyday on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I find the daily question of what to pack my kids off to school with a major challenge and I hoped the pictures would provide weelicious readers with some inspiration. Over the years I heard from so many of you on this subject -- from simply looking for new school lunch ideas to what to do about how often your child's lunch comes home uneaten -- that I became obsessed. I found the subject so interesting I just kept writing. The result is this new book.

Inside Weelicious Lunches you'll find:

* How to easily put together the perfect, balanced school lunch...that your kids will actually want to eat

* Reinventing Leftovers- how to turn last night's dinner into something totally new, delicious, and exciting.

* Strategies For "Picky" Eaters

* Food Allergies at the Lunch Table (complete with a comprehensive, easy-to-follow chart breaking down every recipe in the book)

* Over 160 recipes and over 100 beautiful color photographs

Over the next few weeks I'm going to give you exclusive sneak peaks of the book, a teaser video previewing what's inside and how to make preparing lunch a fun experience, awesome giveaways, and much more to get you all jazzed up for going back this fall to making school lunch again. Until then, try and enjoy some summer fun.. that is unless you're making camp lunch!

And please leave me comments below telling me what you love or hate about making school lunch. I'm always interested!

Here's a few sources you can pre-order the book so it's on your doorstep the day it's released!

    I tried a recipe for Chocolate Chip Granola Bars that was published in last Wednesday’s Kansas City Star. While the result tasted good, I would hardly call it “bars”. I carefully measured all the ingredients and followed the mixing and cooking directions, but I ended up with granola, not bars. There just wasn’t enough liquid to make the dry ingredients stick together. Now I’ll be stopping by a grocery store tomorrow morning to pick up something to take to a meeting because I’m too embarrassed to take the granola when finger food is expected. I’ll be throwing away your recipe.

    Hi – I’m very excited about your new cookbook! I bought your earlier one last year and loved it. My 4 1/2 year old daughter is allergic to peanuts and was recently diagnosed with celiac disease. I’m so glad you’re including a chapter on food allergies. If you could include tips on how to modify your recipes for those with allergies, I know many moms would be forever grateful! It seems like a lot of chldren need to avoid wheat and gluten for various reasons these days.

      I don’t know how young is too young to cry it out. I think it’s a medieval prccaite. I think until 9-12 months they’re too young to cry for too long. If they’re crying, it’s for a reason. All of mine co slept and then moved to their own beds when the time was right for all of us. My middle child was the one that moved to his crib the youngest, around 6 months old. He is still a crazy sleeper. We never did the cry it out. I can’t bear my children crying for any reason. I’d rather comfort them to sleep and put them in their beds.

    Hi Catherine, It’s Debbie from Sweet Debbie’s Organic Cupcakes here. I’ve pre-ordered your book and am anticipating the chapter on Food Allergies at the Lunch Table. My son is starting school in September and since he’s’ allergic to almost the entire USDA food pyramid, I’m a little anxious about what I can pack in his “Cars” lunch sack. I’m sure your book will provide inspiration. Thank you!

    I am so excited for this book! I am a mom of two boys and am always looking for new lunch ideas, especially because their school is a nut-free school zone, which can sometimes make packing lunch a little tricky. I am looking forward to some new ideas!

    Super cool! Will it cover meal-planning? We have to pack lunches for daycare and I keep thinking there must be a more efficient and systematic way to do it than scratching our heads each day trying to come up what to send for our picky toddler! When does the book come out? Excited to get it!

    Love your site and am very excited about this book as I struggle with packing 2 lunches everyday – one for a very picky eater. My only concern is that my picky eater also has severe sesame and nut allergies. Will there be a good selection of nut/sesame free ideas?
