In my family, we live the 3R way. We select paperless statements for all of our utilities, services and other mailers. We use the blank side of cover pages from printers for rough work. We reuse envelopes from mailers for letters that have to be sent. We reuse nearly all glass jars and bottles for storing chutneys, pickles, leftover food etc. We use reusable bpa free water bottles and lunch boxes for food. Whenever we are out on a picnic, we make sure we only take biodegradable ware. We leave minimal trash in the bins and bring the rest back with us for reuse. We have made it a habit to segregate recyclable trash for close to a decade now. We use rechargeable batteries where possible and separate spent batteries out into a separate pile to drop it at collection centers. We refill ink cartridges for printers thereby reducing toxic waste. We have reused cereal boxes as magazine holders. When carefully taken off from gifts, wrapping papers can be reused in craft projects. Old shoe boxes and tissue boxes have been reused as crayon and pencil holders. We circulate our older toys and children accessories with our friends who can reuse them (subject to being free from any recalls). Following the 3R is a way of life once you integrate it into everyday living. And it feels good because it does good for our Planet. Thanks!

I’m keeping my grandbaby this year while mom works at the elementary school as a speech pathologist. I can’t stand to throw anything away but don’t want to become a hoarder either. Those white boxes her diaper wipes came in (which we got tons when she was born) I am now using those for different items, such as, crayolas, wine corks I am saving and the list goes on & on. They are stackable.

we re-use jars all the time, to store left overs or when i make a new savory or sweet sauce, great for dips and salads, baby food, baby paints. I also like to save plastic containers from the odd times we buy fast food, we reuse them for painting and crafts for my daughter. we save kitchen paper rolls for crafts too and boxes are always great for storing outgrown clothes, things that we are not currently using like Christmas decorations or different weather clothes, with dish/hand soap and cleaners i just buy refills to fill up the container, I’ve even tried making my own in the past… i just wasn’t as fond of it so i went back to my store bought eco friendly cleaners. we have reusable bags for our groceries but if for some reason we don’t have them and have grocery bags, we use them as trash bags.

We plant seeds in washed eggshell halves, kept snug in the bottom half of their cardboard container. To help keep the temperature warm and the soil moist we use a large size clear plastic salad container (the kind mixed baby greens come in) as a mini- greenhouse in our kitchen window. When the sprouts are big enough to transplant, the salad box gets recycled, the egg carton gets composted, and the eggshell with its new life gets planted directly in the garden!

Our disposable culture drives me crazy…love these products and the whole company! Some things we can’t get around are peanut butter containers…we have turned some into instruments with dried beans inside. I am a single mom at 22 with a five year old daughter. I attend college full time at Stony Brook University and work while we live in a family dorm. My Bella is about to start kindergarten, so we are learning many ways to eat healthy and recycle. We use our toilet paper rolls and egg cartons for painting and crafts. We like to use ice cube trays for freezing blended fruits and veggies for her lunches and sauces. I have been inspired by weelicious.com to make healthy and organic lunches for her daycare and now public school! I bought silicone baking squares for more efficient and earth conscious lunch packing. We also use our shoe boxes, containers and drink bottles for gardening and feeders in our apartment complex garden. My daughters favorite way to reuse things is by making instruments out of cans and her play kitchen that we made from boxes. We like to reuse as much as possible to save money and be organic :)

    Hello,
Our family re-uses the large plastic containers with twist in lids (that bulk foods com in like the peanut butter pretzels at costco) for snack options for our kids. We place healthy non perishable snacks in one container and a sweet option in the other container and we let the kids pick from the container we choose. They love it because they feel like they are choosing their own snacks!
