FreshTech Automatic Home Canning + Jar Giveaway: 10 Winners!

Ball Home Canning System Giveaway on Weelicious

Share

There's just something about the sight canning jars that takes me right back to my grandparents' house in Kentucky. For as long as I can remember, the shelves in their basement were always lined and stacked with jar after jar of homemade luscious preserves, tangy pickles, chunky chutneys and more. Whatever food they came across, if it could be canned, they would can it!

My friend, Monica, is also a major canner and makes the most delicious preserves, jams and jellies. Mandarin and navel oranges, nectarines, plums, strawberries, tomatoes and more have all been the focus of her canning talents. Whenever I see her at the farmers' market she will point out the different vendors and tell me the latest things she's made with their goods. Monica showed up at Chloe's school last week with over 25 jars of her homemade goodies in tow and it took all of my willpower not to ask her for one of each flavor to bring home.

I recently became acquainted with the lovely folks over at Ball and in honor of the company's 100th anniversary, they offered weelicious readers this major giveaway. Major. 9 winners will receive a case of Ball jars tinted this gorgeous spring green and 1 grand prize winner will walk away the proud new owner of the Freshtech automatic home canning system and a case of jars to get them started!

For a chance to win just leave me a comment below telling me your favorite flavor of preserves. Good luck!

My absolute favorite preserves are/is Apple Butter! They’re a major comfort food that remind of a time gone by when as a small child I would stand in amazement in my Grandma’s Kitchen in Indiana and watch as she would make something that looked so Gawd awful to me taste so delicious! Until this day, I can’t even smell anything apple without being transported back to a time so long ago of standing in my “Nana’s” kitchen and that delicious smell that came from her preserving the delicious fall apples!

My favorite preserves, “garden special” put up every late summer by my Memere. It was a hodge-podge of the end of season bounty yielded by the garden, hence the name. Always lots of tomato & herbs, some years were heavy on squash or peppers. It made a good base for soup/stew/sauce and, like wine it was as unique as the weather that year.

I am a huge believer in the process of making, canning, storing, and eating fermented foods. So, my favorite flavor of preserves is………fermented foods! Similar to kimchi. I understand this is an acquired ‘flavor’, however, there is growing evidence on the importance of our health being linked to the healthy bacteria or ‘probiotics’ that line our gut. Research is beginning to show not only the correlation of fermented foods with the healthy digestive system, but also our mental health. It is truly amazing. If I were to win this beautiful Ball TECH home canning system I would use it for my fermented foods, homemade yogurt, jams (ololliberry!), and honey. In addition I would market it in the book I am working on that is all about the benefits of fermented food and how to make your own to incorporate into your daily diet! Thanks for reading.

I actually love making a mixed berry jam (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry), but instead of making with 100% sugar, I use a mix of sugar & sugar sub (coconut palm sugar). My dad is a diabetic, so I make a low sugar version jam for him to be able to enjoy

When the holidays have come to an end and cranberries are hard to come by, I like to make cranberry jam. It is so fantastic on turkey sandwiches or ham. I have made it sugar-free, w/sugar or w/ honey. Of course we never turn down a good berry or mixed berry jam in our house!

My favorite is the plum jam & jelly my Gram used to make when I was young. I loved spending summers with Grammy because she was a wonderful cook and made everything we did fun. We worked hard, but the rewards were delicious and lasted all year!. Gram always made me feel special and capable and smart! We would can jam, jelly, syrup and then pack jars with split plums that she used later to make her wonderful plum cake, cobbler, crisp, pudding, and cookies. I have never forgotten the fresh hot oatmeal pancakes Grams served in the mornings, topped with butter and her delicious homemade plum syrup.
I learned a lot about canning during those wonderful summer days, but even more about living life. All while picking, washing, preparing and canning the fruits, and vegetables tended with love by Grampa and other hardworking local farmers.

My favorite thing to can is Strawberry Jam so far. Growing up I always remember going to my Grandma’s and seeing all the jars of different things she would can. My mother was big on canning as well. We always had green beans, peas, corn, tomatoes, pickles, etc. canned at home. I’ve always wanted to do a lot of canning myself.
I stayed with a Mennonite family in PA. which served us Strawberry Jam thus my love for making it. I also bought Blueberry Jam from an Amish roadside stand it it was the best. Home canning is the way to go.
