Adventures in Penny Pinching is a bi-monthly article by Staci of Chester and Co.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner. We often feel the pressure to do something beyond spectacular. When you are pinching pennies this can seem daunting. But if we take a step back and focus on what’s important and what the holiday is all about it’s really not so hard. And in doing this we can really focus on what’s important. The connection between you and your partner. Let’s do something other then going to a movie and out to eat (although that sounds nice right now...) Go hiking, go on a lunch date at the park, have a popcorn and movie night at home, go on a bike ride, or do a hobby you both enjoy. You’ll save money and build great memories at the same time.
For this Valentine’s Day here are some great, creative, fun ways to celebrate.
Movie at Home: The cost of tickets and snacks at the theater, plus the cost of a babysitter could run you $150. Instead, stay at home, rent a new movie, make your own popcorn, and cuddle up on the couch after the kids have gone to bed. You will save money, and you will have the place all to yourself!
Fancy Dinner at Home: You don't have to spend the big bucks to enjoy a wonderful meal with the one you love. Get dressed up, set the table with your fine china, add a little candlelight, and some soft music to set the mood. If waiting for dinner after bedtime is too late for you, then get the kids involved! Let them dress up in their favorite outfit. Keep the ambience going, and spend dinner talking about all the things you love about each other.
Lunch in the Park: Life gets busy. Valentine's Dinner just might not work for you. Spend your lunch break together instead. Pack a picnic lunch in the morning, or get your favorite takeout. Meet at a local park and spend your lunch break with your partner. While you're there, feel like a kid again and swing! Feel the wind in your hair as you swing side-by-side with your favorite person.
Get outside and move Go on a hike or to the beach. Go as a family, or take the day off while the kids are in school and make it a romantic date. If you live in a colder area, bundle up and then cuddle on the sand to keep warm. Soak in all that nature has to offer together. You'll get in your daily exercise and have the chance to enjoy natural beauty with your natural beauty.
