This is one of the first purees that I made for the kids when they were babies and they both always ate it with sheer delight. Funnily enough, they still love it now. We have Pear Apple Butter at least once a week for snacks and dessert!
Not only are smoothies nutritious and fun for kids of almost any age to help prepare with you, they're also a great use of any fruit you have laying around that may be overripe and otherwise going to waste. Tropical Coconut Smoothie is a great breakfast for everyone in the family from Baby to Daddy!
Bananas and avocado are not only monsters of nutrition, but they also make a creamy and delicious combination for babies and toddlers. Avocados are rich in the antioxidants beta-carotene and vitamin C and E while bananas are filled with magnesium and potassium. This puree is so thick and rich, I decided to get all fancy and call it a mousse. Banana Avocado Mousse -- yes, we’re so fancy here at weelicious :).
Some mornings when I walk downstairs bleary eyed (wait, that's every morning), I wish there was something already made in the refrigerator that I could just pull out. I came up with this recipe for just that reason. Fruit, dairy, protein and wheat germ are the perfect start to Kenya's morning of play, and so Blueberry Mango Breakfast was born.
There's at least one deep orange vegetable for Kenya to snack on in the fridge everyday. They're incredibly easy to make, nutritious, a beautiful color and super sweet. I looked around the kitchen and found the gorgeous California Medjool dates I had bought at the market to snack on. Sweet as candy and rich in Magnesium and Potassium, I soaked a few and threw them in the food processor with the squash. Butternut Squash and Date Puree. Heaven.
Apple Walnut Puree is so delicious that my kids, even though they are past the puree stage, eagerly devoured it. I don't know why I was surprised. When you think about how much most kids love apple sauce, it makes total sense why this puree should be an easy sell to any little one from 8 months or older since it's just like a nutty applesauce.
Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wa) is a food that you might not automatically think about serving to your little one, but not only is it incredibly nutritious, it's also delicious. Quinoa Banana Mash takes minutes to prepare and is such a delicious treat for your tot.
This luscious White Peach and Pluot (a hybrid of plums and apricots which is 3/4 plum and 1/4 apricot to be precise) puree is heaven for babies.
I even surprised myself at how delicious this Cantaloupe Cream turned out. I had 5 people in the kitchen while I was making it and like good testers, we all took our spoons, tried a bite and in unison exclaimed, "WOW"!
Yummy, delicious, creamy, nutritious.. All the words I think of when describing this Avocado Cherimoya Mousse.
