When you have a baby you hope and expect that they will come out perfect in every way. You pray that everything you eat and do while your baby is in utero affects them in a positive way. I basically thought about this for 10 long months with each of my three pregnancies. I call these my crazy pants. I strap them on tight and don’t take them off until I’m holding my sweet babies in my arms.

With Kenya and Chloe I never had a day where I worried about them having food allergies as they never showed any signs of sensitives. I offered every food under the sun so they could enjoy a wide variety and they never had any reactions. With Gemma, though, it has been a different story. From the day she was born her skin was irritated and dry from eczema which was inevitably part of her diagnosis.

We went to several allergists, I cut everything from dairy to gluten to sugar out of my diet for 5 long months. We finally discovered one of the causes being an egg allergy, but her eczema still hasn’t totally disappeared. There’s nothing more heart breaking than watching your child itch non stop whenever her clothes are off. Aside from changing my diet so my breastmilk is free of the foods we know are triggers, taking long warm baths and lubing her up with tons of moisturizing creams, there was little we could do to alleviate her pain.

Some of the common nasties that can affect your baby’s skin are used in laundry detergents which makes the laundry one of the best places to start detoxing your home.
Take a look: eczema cream baby

  3. My daughter’s tends to flair up around Winter when it gets dry or when her immune system is fighting something off. It seems so miserable. Thanks for a change to win!

  4. Wow! Glad her skin looks like it has cleared. My son had eczema that looked exactly like her’s at 5 months. Through allergy testing we found he was allergic to eggs, cow’s milk, and cashews. All of which I was eating regularly and he was getting through my milk. He was miserable too. Once I eliminated those foods his skin completely cleared and he was so much happier. At 13 months he is still allergic to eggs and milk but hoping he grows out of them. Best to you and Gemma!

  5. This is great. I’ve tried several seventh generation products. I have. 2 year old I would love to win for.

  6. My second child, just over a year old, has been riddled with eczema and a walnut/pecan allergy. We slather him daily but as the winter months kick in, I’m looking for the best ways to lock in moisture for his itchy legs. I look forward to trying the seventh generation lotion. We love the diaps and wipes!

  7. Babyganics products and essential oils. My son would break out from everything. I have sensitive skin too and these products helped us.

  8. We’be been using Cetaphil for bath and aquaphor for moisturizer. Curious about what Seventh Generation has to offer.

  9. My little guy didn’t have eczema until he stopped breastfeeding and started eating more solid foods. It’s on his wrists, ankles and sometimes behind his knees but not as bad. The pediatrician told me too generously lubricate those areas until it cleared up. She said it would take a couple weeks. My best guess as far as allergies was cow milk but we also live in a very dry climate with harsh winters

  10. We nurture our kids skin with coconut oil! We use it as a moisturizer and in the bath for our kids

  11. I would love to see how Seventh Generation products treats our family’s Eczema. My husband has Eczema really severe!

  12. Love seventh generation products! I used to get their sunscreen but I think they discontinued it.

  13. Allergies, excema, asthma….all too common among our children these days. As a medical professional, nutritionist and liver of all things natural it’s amazing to see/hear so many moms doing the best they can fir the health and well-being of their children! Natural, non-toxic, safe products make sense for families! Unfortunately some “green” companies aren’t as green or safe as they claim. Do your homework and your family will thrive!

  14. I would love to try seveth generation for eczema for my baby. My husband has really dry skin and now my babies does as well.

  15. We use Seventh Generations products too. Eczema is no fun and this really does help with it.

  16. I love Seventh Generation products. We also use Weleda products, which are natural as well. The baby products contain calendula, which soothes the skin and is gentle on baby.

  17. Both of my sons have eczema. We use Cetaphil Eczema Calming Body Moisturizer. I would love to try 7th Gen products!

  18. Aww….so glad you’re figuring out her eczema triggers! I cannot imagine! I am a long time fan of Seventh Generation products–they’re eco-friendly products that actually work!

  19. My little guy had eczema as a baby and Seventh Generation laundry detergent and wipes as well as warm baths and creams were a big part of our routine.

  20. I have a toddler with eczema just started trying out 7th generation products I like them so far.

  21. I have a baby with eczema as well. It is heart breaking. Looking forward to trying 7th Generation.

  22. My daughter gets eczema on her little ankles, elbow creases, and behind the knees and it just kills me to watch her itch. I’ve tried multiple creams and shampoos. Waiting to wash her body and hair until the end of the bath and not putting any bubbles in the bath has helped a little but I am afraid she may have an allergy as well.

  23. My youngest gets episodes of eczema and we are still figure out what causes it..when he has flare ups it really breaks my heart!

  24. My daughter has occasional bouts of eczema. It was really bad until we took her for allergy testing, and determined she is allergic to egg whites and peanuts. After changing our whole family’s diet, she improved rapidly. She still has occasional flare-ups, so I slather her with Baby Cerave cream every morning and night to keep her skin moisturized.

  25. My son also suffers from Eczema. Heartbreaking to see them suffer so young. Luckily his breakouts are smaller in scale now that he’s 6, but it still makes my heart hurt for him.

  26. Great timing with a baby on the way. My first had some eczema patches until he was about two and we are lucky that they’ve mostly been kept at bay since then.

  27. My 5 year old had really bad eczema until she was almost 3. Like you, I was only using natural products and was slathering her with different oils trying to find something that helped. It wasn’t until we found out about all of her food allergies that it got better (eggs, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, mango, coconut). Her reaction to coconut on the skin test was more mild than the others, but that was the only allergen I hadn’t already pulled from her diet. After eliminating coconut it took some time but eventually it all cleared up and we haven’t had a flare-up since. It took awhile to catch all of the coconut in bath products, laundry detergent, etc since it’s under different names but once I did it made a huge difference!! I hope you can find Gemma’s trigger.

  28. Have you tried Tubby Todd bath products? Look them up and read the founder’s story! It might help

  29. My daughter MacKenzie, now 7, has had eczema all her life and as much as I try to relieve it nothing works! We use dye free and fragrance free products and no fabric softener even though we have hard water.. She has her own soap too! Every night and every morning I lather her up (with a fun massage) and she hates it. We have never tried strength seventh generation products but maybe it will work for her..

  30. My oldest son, now 9, has dealt with eczema and multiple food allergies (eggs, dairy, nuts) since birth. Eczema is much better now, but still flares up. Have faith that Gemma may grow out of it over the next few years. We Use natural products, Bee cream from the farmers market, and experiment with foods all the time!! Good luck mama!

  31. My 3 month old has eczema and I’ve cut dairy, eggs and more from my diet. Another thing I do is to completely dry the water from his skin after bath and between the skin folds after his bath and diaper changes. Then, I slather him with lotion to stay moisturized.

  32. We nurture our baby’s skin with infant massage, using dye and perfume free detergents like seventh generation and avoiding dryer sheets.

  33. My son has eczema also, thank you for sharing. I will try the Seventh Generat products.

  34. Your baby girl is beautiful. I hope she’s doing much better with her eczema from using the seventh generation products. I have young children who’s had their fair share of eczema, and I know how hard it is taking care of them. May we all continue to be strong moms for our kiddos.

  35. I am pregnant with my first child so I don’t have a bathing routine, but would love to try these products! I have heard that bathing babies too often can dry their skin out!

  36. Coconut Oil was our go to moisturizer with my first baby. Hoping it works just as well with baby number 2 in about a month!

  37. Choosing products free of chemicals and artificial fragrances has never been more important than it is now that I have 2 children!

  38. My second little boy Aidan has developed extremely sensitive skin. It is heartbreaking and has been a non- stop process to find things that don’t irritate his skin. Right now Motherlove diaper rash and thrush cream seems to work. I’ve switched out wipes to Seventh generation. Next is on to diapers and detergent. I’ve been waiting and watching between products to see what works and doesn’t. It’s been a long and expensive process and at times discouraging. Aidan is most of the time good natured about it which helps.

  39. We use coconut oil as a moisturizer for our kids. We also love Seventh Generation products and use them frequently in our house!

  40. I love and trust Seventh Generation products to be safe for my kids and family. I especially love their diaper cream, laundry detergent, and dish soap. They are staples at home!

  41. I myself have a son who has had severe eczema since birth. It is heart breaking to see your child suffer and be so itchy they cannot sleep. Our son is now 6 but still has flare ups and we have to be incredibly diligent about what he eats and the things which touch his skin. Having some Seventh Generation products would be so helpful for my son and our entire family. I also have a 10 month old who shows some signs of eczema as well. I will do and try anything to help my babies!

  42. I haven’t actually tried Seventh Generation for my kids. Now I will! My thing is sunscreen for young, precious skin.
P.S. Your daughter is so cute!

  43. Your daughter is beautiful! We use a lot of Seventh Generation products because they are gentle on our skin. We love that it has no harsh chemicals. Thank you for sharing!

  44. I forgot to add….your daughter absolutely beautiful and looks so happy. I hope you can get all of her triggers under control. My son’s skin looks great as long as we are very disciplined with his diet and applying moisturizer.

  45. We use All free and clear laundry detergent. I like California baby super sensitive body wash and shampoo. We use vanicream lotion which isn’t as sticky and heavy as aquaphor.

My son also has an egg allergy that was directly linked to his eczema. He also is allergic to wheat and all nuts, so that eliminated a lot of body care products.

  46. Aquaphor has been a lifesaver for us – diaper cream, under-the-nose cream for those rough spots after a cold, dry skin…

  47. I’m dealing with an egg intolerance with my six-month-old too. And I’m still off dairy, soy, gluten, etc etc even though so far eggs are the only definite problem I know of. We’re dealing with some majorly stubborn dry skin by both elbows.

  48. I had my first eczema outbreak at 44 with my recent pregnancy. It’s watery itchy blisters all over my fingers. 🙁

  49. My niece has eczema and nothing seemed to help until we found Seventh Generation, it is wonderful.

  50. My oldest has always severely dry skin especially in the winter. I want to lather her in lotions but not in chemicals.

  51. I use non-perfumes detergents at all times to try to protect my daughters skin as best I can. And I adore Seventh Generation diapers and wipes!

  52. Two out of our three children had eczema to the point that we were going to a specialist for it. We tried many, many things. It is much better, but they still have some issues with it.

  53. My daughter has excess on her hand. At night we lather it with lotion and she sleeps with a glove on

  54. My two year old always has dry skin so we moisturize every night after tubby. I have another baby arriving in a few weeks and would love to try the Seventh Generation products on him or her!

  55. I use non-toxic laundry soap, hand soap, body wash and switching our dish soap and dishwashing detergent also.

  56. My son has eczema. The only product i found useful for him is mustela brand. I put it on twice a day and within 3 minutes of him getting out of the bath to lock in the moisture. If he has any flare ups, i just mix in some 1% hydrocortisone cream with his lotion.

  57. Aside from avoiding allergens, I find using shea butter to be a great way to nourish my little guy’s skin. He has very minor eczema during winter months and a little shea butter everyday takes care of it right away.

  58. We use very gentle toxin-free bath soap and keep baths to a minimum in general. My oldest has eczema and multiple food allergies…sorry to hear Gemma does too 🙁

  59. My daughter had similar issues and we’ve had many battles with it. As a result some of our very close family members changed and eliminated chemicals, perfumes, etc. from themselves and their homes. My daughter improved but we still had trouble. Yeast ended up being the major problem. It was eliminated as well as virtually eliminating dairy and sugar. Will pray you find what works best for Gemma.

  60. Oh poor little thing 🙁 my son had eczema until his food allergy diagnosis – peanuts, tree nuts, soy, legumes/pulses, coconut, sesame, shellfish, egg, sunflower, safflower, flax and mustard 🙁 it took us several tests to finally isolate all of his allergens, but once we did, the eczema and gives disappeared. It was so hard, especially as a vegan, to cut out all of these while breastfeeding, but I feel being super strict helped him outgrow half of these allergies. Good luck on figuring out what else could be causing your little one’s skin irritation – food allergies are no fun but at least manageable!

  61. We use Seventh Generation detergent and love it! Haven’t tried any of their other products but would love to!

  62. Free & clear everything! Don’t you love how products geared towards infants are loaded with chemical perfumes & colors? We’ve been using Seventh Generation products for years & hope to continue to for many years to come.

  63. We fought eczema with our first. We put oils in the baths and were very careful on diet which helped.

  64. We’ve fought eczema with all 3 of our kids! (We also have food allergies.) Unscented everything seems to help…and cotton pjs…and definitely moisturizing post bath.

  65. I found using a humidifier helps tremendously! Also, I’m a big fan of coconut oil on the skin.

  66. Like you with my twin girls I never worried about their skin or foods which I ate now with my 7 week old Baby boy I am extremely conscious. He was just diagnosed with eczema and I am keeping his skin moisturized with acquaphor and experimenting with products that may be good for him. A very stressful process to be going through as you want your babies to be pain free at all times.

  67. I give less frequent baths to keep my son’s skin moist, I use natural washes, and I rub coconut oil on his body.

  68. My son has eczema, after a long try of train and error tge 7th gen are the only products that do not irritate his skin and the bubble bath with an olive oil base does wonders for my daughters cradel cap!

  69. Oh, that breaks my heart. That was the story for my little guy, too. We did every diet, every product, oils, salt caves. Finally, we started doing 20 minute like warm baths with 1 cup of magnesium flakes and he’s been eczema free and off topical steroids for a year. Magnesium deficiency might not be your issue, but it might and it’s worth a try. It’s been life changing for us!!

  70. I have this condition and have passed it on to my child. It’s great that Seventh Generation has Safe products! Thanks!

  71. I moisturize my baby daily to nurture his skin Both of my boys have very sensitive skin. My second son is 3 months old and this prize bundle would be wonderful for his precious new skin!

  72. My first had eczema and it was a constant battle trying to control it. Keeping my fingers crossed that #2 baby will not have to deal with it. Thanks Catherine for this website. It’s my go to guide!

  73. I use Honest Company body/hair wash on my baby because I believe its natural and safe, I know Seventh Generation is too, and I would LOVE to try their baby care products!

  74. I don’t bathe my baby very often because I find it dries her skin out. And I use natural baby soap.
