When we started getting really into making smoothies for breakfast (which turned into the Smoothie Project and the Weelicious printable sheet here), one of the ingredients we all started adding to them was fresh turmeric. It has a strong flavor, but one that’s so incredibly tasty even the kids love it. Not only is it delicious in smoothies (especially when you balance it with something sweet like a date or banana), but when you add it to any of your favorite sautéed greens it’s off the charts!

  1. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Turmeric is widely used in Ayurveda (Ancient Indian Medication). I hope they taste as great as they look.. I learned about turmeric from iahas.com, and since then, I have been a big fan of this spice. I have tried a couple of tea and milk using turmeric. It tastes good, actually. I will add your blog to my list.

  2. This is the first time I’ve ever cooked with turmeric root. In fact, today was first time I was able to find in my grocery store! Searched the web for a “sautéed spinach with turmeric” recipe and was fortunate enough to stumble upon this one. Magnificent! My ENTIRE family LOVED it. Thank you so much for sharing! Bravo 🙂

  3. That looks delicious! If I buy fresh turmeric, can I wrap and keep it in the freezer as I do fresh ginger?

  4. Yes you can use ground turmeric! Dried and ground spices are much more pungent than their fresh counterparts, so a general rule of thumb is to use 1 teaspoon ground in place of 1 tablespoon fresh.
