Contrary to what today’s title would lead you to believe, I’m not posting a bunch of spread recipes. Rather, I’m giving you an exclusive look at a few layout spreads from my brand new book Weelicious Lunches, which comes out September 3rd!

This book is four years in the making. I spent much of that time — since Kenya started preschool — immersed in and obsessed with every morsel that’s gone into each of my kids’ lunch boxes. In doing so I feel like I have mastered the midday meal, and knowing how much moms dread making school lunch, I wrote this book. If you have ever stared blankly into your fridge at 10pm at a total loss over what to send your kid to school with the next day, or packed a PB&J everyday of the week for lack of inspiration, this book is for you. Whereas I once experienced daily anguish over what to send my kids to school with, one of the most exciting and fun parts of my day now is making lunch. After reading the book, my hope is that you will share the same joy and experience the ease I do.

The 300+ page book is filled with lunchtime tips, tricks, and strategies and features over 160 recipes geared towards those who want to make lunch fast and ensure it is yummy (wouldn’t it be great if everything you cooked was fast and yummy?). You can do it!

Silky Tomato SoupPin

There are plenty of recipes for savory soups to either drink out of a thermos or slurp off a spoon, like this crazy good Silky Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons (click on the pics to see it even bigger). I’ve seen my family come close to tears dipping the little crusty, cheesy bites into the luscious soup.

Veggie Tortilla Roll UpsPin

Tons and tons and tons of sandwiches (what would a lunch book be without a bunch of unique sandwich recipes) like Veggie Tortilla Roll-Ups.

Peach Fruit LeatherPin

Peach Fruit Leather.. and yes, that’s Pineapple Fruit Leather next to it. Be still my heart.

Baked Whole Wheat Raspberry DoughnutsPin

Or how about these Baked Whole-Wheat Raspberry Donuts? I was torn as to whether to add them to the snack or dessert chapters. You’ll see in the book what I finally decided but either way, shouldn’t there always be a sweet treat inside your lunch box?!

Here’s where you can pre-order Weelicious Lunches so you’re all set when the school year starts. Or maybe you want to gift it to a friend, family member, teacher, co-worker … basically anyone in need!

  1. I am so excited about this book… my 4 year old is going to be attending a new preschool in September (which doesn’t provide lunch) . Was starting to panic at the thought of packing him a lunch every day but now that Weelicious Lunches will be released just in time to rescue me, I can breath a sigh of relief.

  2. I was literally just thinking about how I’m dreading the fact that I soon will have to start packing lunches for my daughter. I wish your book was coming out earlier! My daughter’s starting school in August.

  3. Love the pages! Just a question – what containers do you recommend to use for sending lunches to school with kids? I have to start sending my son to school with a lunch starting in September and I am not sure what containers to buy that are microwavable, BPA free, and the right size. Thanks so much for any ideas you have!

  4. There are a bunch of awesome spread recipes in the book! I’ll do a few for weelicious.com too 🙂

  5. Looking forward to the book, but seriously, as often as people ask on Facebook, you really should do a post on sandwich spreads! 🙂

  6. Hello very nice site!! Guy .. Excellent .. Superb .. I will bookmark your webtsie and take the feeds additionally…I’m glad to search out numerous helpful info right here within the submit, we need work out extra techniques on this regard, thanks for sharing. . . . . .

  7. The book is perfect for day care too! The snack chapter is thick, but you’ll be shocked at ideas in other chapters that I bet he’ll love!

  8. I’m so excited for this book. My little dude isn’t school aged yet but he is in daycare and I send 2 snacks and lunch with him each day. I’m really looking forward to having a resource to help me keep his meals exciting!

  9. I created a GORGEOUS 4 page allergy chart for the book. Every recipe is included and it tells you if its gluten, nut, dairy and egg free!

  10. The book has an allergen index so you can easily see which recipes are gluten free, and a section with ideas for allergen substitutions!

  11. I’m looking forward to seeing the new cookbook that is just for lunches! I have your other cookbook and just love it. Are there a lot of recipes that are gluten free (or easily adaptable)? My daughter can’t have gluten which makes her lunches kind of boring (not a lot of variety for the “main” part of lunch).

  12. I’m so excited for your new book. Our PlanetBox lunch systems are being shipped as I type. Besides feeding my kids heathy lunches everyday, I’m looking forward to not having to use a bunch of platic bags that just get thrown away.
    Thank you!
