These bright and colorful Apple Donuts are almost as fun to eat as they are to make! They’re a great recipe for getting your kids to eat fruit and also to use up some extra apples you may have.
My kids and I LOVE apples. When it’s apple season especially (which is right around the corner), we love making all of our favorite apple recipes like Apple Pie Turnovers, Apple Almond Cake, Apple Applesauce Muffins and Chocolate Covered Apple Lollipops. These Apple Donuts are a newer addition to our apple repertoire and my kids absolutely gobbled them up when I made them!
This recipe is a great one for getting kids involved in the kitchen! Gemma helped me mix the dye free food coloring in with the whipped cream cheese and then she took her kid safe knife and spread the mixture onto the apple slices all by herself. She LOVED getting to make each one special with her favorite dye free sprinkles. This would be a great activity for a kids birthday party too!
What’s fun about this recipe is that every Apple Donut has its own personality. Each apple has its own shape. You can choose what color to make your cream cheese. You can choose what toppings you want to finish them off with, whether it be sprinkles, mini chocolate chips or even some chopped nuts. There’s not wrong way and that’s the best part!
These are a great addition to your kids lunch boxes too. They’re bright and colorful which inherently will make them excited to eat these. And with the amount of fiber and other nutrients in apples it’s a win-win! Getting kids excited about eating things that are good for them is what I live for! Add these Apple Donuts to your kid’s school lunch next week and their eyes will light up!
