Living in California we go through a lot of avocados every week. Avocados have always been one of my kids favorite foods whether we eat them plain, on avocado toast, in kale avocado salad (which they love making on their own so they can mash the avocados with their hands) or in an avocado shake.

When you’re buying pounds of avocados every week, you’re inevitably going to have a few that are bruised. Not to mention those stubborn avocados that never seem to ripen until you’re out of the house for five minutes, and when you come back it’s past it’s prime! Why are avocados so finicky anyway? Maybe that’s part of what makes them a great addition to your beauty routine! When I open one and see that it’s not perfect inside I don’t throw it away, I turn it into this Avocado Honey Mask.

I have always had incredibly dry skin no matter what I try. I eat the most hydrating foods, drink tons of water and have tried endless varieties of fancy creams. Instead of spending a ton of money on over priced masks with un-natural ingredients I go straight for real ingredients like avocado and honey to add moisture to my skin.

Avocados are filled with vitamin E, vitamin C, antioxidants and healthy fats to keep your skin smooth and moisturized. All you have to do is mash one up and add a squeeze of good quality honey which has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties to help brighten and clarify your skin. Honey will also help lock in moisture to make your skin remain hydrated longer.

The best part? If you have a little remaining in your bowl it’s the perfect opportunity to snag a bite as it also tastes delicious to boot. These are the type of foods that are just as good for your insides as they are for your outsides!

What are some pantry staples you have added to your skin care routine? I would love to hear all about what works for you in the comments below! I’m always looking for more natural tips and tricks to try out.
