My friend told me how she makes these super easy cheeseburger sliders for her Super Bowl party menu every year, and it blew my mind! Instead of making 12 individual hamburger patties, she breaks up and browns the ground beef with delicious seasonings, then layers it on Hawaiian rolls with cheese and bakes them. The cheese becomes super gooey and acts like a glue to keep the ground beef together! Easy peasy! We made these sliders together the other day, and it took under 30 minutes. I just had to share her recipe!

Why I Love This Recipe

  • Great For a Crowd: Being able to make 12 sliders at one time without having to be over a hot grill to flip each patty is a game changer. It’s the perfect quick, game-day appetizer. Double or triple the recipe with ease if you’re hosting a really large gathering. Serve with Oven Baked Fries and a side of ketchup and you’re set!
  • Easy to Make: Breaking apart the ground beef and then using the little bit of mayo and the cheese slices to keep the beef together is such a great trick to making truly the easiest pull apart sliders.
  • Kids Love Them: The simple flavors are great for kids, and they get to choose whatever sauce they like and dip the sliders straight in making it a fun activity. Plus, small burgers for smalls hands! These are really the most perfect kid-friendly food.

The Ingredients

  • Ground Beef: Lean ground beef 90/10 (10% fat) or even 93/7 (7% fat) works best here. The more fat content, the more likely you’ll have to spoon out the excess to prevent soggy sliders.
  • Mayonnaise: The mayo acts as a glue for the ground beef. Use just enough so that everything sticks together.
  • Seasonings: My friend has always used a Lipton onion soup mix packet for seasoning her ground beef, but I opt to make my own version with dried minced onions, onion powder, garlic powder and paprika.
  • Sliced Cheese: Feel free to experiment with different types of cheeses – sharp cheddar, Monterrey jack or even Pepperjack are great options!
  • Hawaiian Rolls: Using these rolls for the buns is the trick! They come connected so all you have to do is slice the loaf horizontally, layer all the beef and cheese on top, and bake!

Tips and Tricks

  • Drain the Excess Oil: It’s really important to remove the excess oil before you make the ground beef mixture. This helps prevent soggy buns.
  • Make Ahead: These burgers can be assembled up to a day ahead of time, stored covered in the refrigerator and then heated in the oven when ready to serve. Or, brown the ground beef with the seasonings and store separately in airtight container then assemble the sliders as instructed and bake.
  • Customize: I keep these sliders simple and let everyone dip in their favorite sauce, but feel free to add on to this base recipe. Pickles, a homemade burger sauce, caramelized onions or anything you love on your traditional burgers would be great!
  • Parchment Lined Baking Dish: I like to line the baking dish with parchment paper leaving about an inch hanging off the sides. After baking, I can lift the parchment paper to remove all the sliders from the dish at once. So easy!

My friends have already started asking me if I’m making these for the Super Bowl again this year! They were such a huge hit last year. Can’t wait! Thanks for the recipe.

These are awesome! Love that itโ€™s a 1lbs recipe opposed to 2lbs. I browned onions instead to add (didnโ€™t have dehydrated) I also made a Worcestershire butter glaze with a few spices to add when the tinfoil comes off and DELICIOUS. Thank you so much!

Made this dish for my family for the Super Bowl and it was a HIT! My husband can’t stop talking about it! Super easy and just as delicious. Thanks for sharing, Catherine!

  4. Have you ever tried spreading ketchup, mayo, relish on them before baking? I see the photo of dipping into ketchup- Iโ€™m assuming this would fall apart if you opened the bun top to add.
    Havenโ€™t made these yet.

    1. I mix the mayo into the ground beef (to serve as a binder). I haven’t added ketchup or relish to the inside, but I feel that it would work perfectly fine! I kept these simple in case people wanted different toppings, etc. Hope that helps!

    1. Sour cream could work I think! I haven’t tried it myself, though. Or there are some delicious vegan mayos on the market you could try ๐Ÿ™‚ Let me know what you decide!

This recipe was a HUGE hit with my son. I think he was in disbelief that I could make something like this at home. It was insanely easy to make and a lot of fun. Definitely something I will serve regularly for special occasions like game days, birthday, etc. I did not have the minced dried onions, so I just used a half cup or so of chopped onions and browned them before the beef. Also, I had thick sliced cheese on hand and I think that made the dish especially tasty. Thanks Catherine!!

    1. I’m so glad you liked these! They’re incredible. Thanks for sharing your substitutions ๐Ÿ™‚
