Why Make Pizza Roll Ups?

  • Quick and Easy: Seriously, there are few recipes that are this simple and require little to no work (or cooking skills for that matter). You can whip these up in a matter of minutes! No need to fool around stretching out homemade pizza dough either!
  • Kid-Friendly: My kids absolutely love when I make these pizza roll ups. I serve them for an after school snack or for a super quick dinner with Tomato Sauce or Veggie Heavy Pizza Sauce on the side to dip in!
  • Versatile: Pizza roll ups can be served as appetizers, snacks, or even as a main dish making them super versatile. Serve them up for game day, parties or family dinner.

The Ingredients

Ingredients to make pizza roll ups.Pin
  • Sandwich bread: For this recipe, sandwich bread will act as your pizza crust.
  • Mozzarella cheese sticks: I always have cheese sticks ready to go in my fridge for snacks and lunch boxes or for making Air Fryer Crispy Cheese Bites. If you don’t have cheese sticks, you can use shredded mozzarella cheese!
  • Butter: These pizza rolls are cooked in a cast iron pan with a bit of melted butter to get the beautiful golden brown exterior that makes them absolutely heavenly!
  • Marinara sauce: I serve these with warmed marinara sauce on the side for dipping!
  • Pepperoni (Optional): I add diced pepperoni to these pizza rolls to further add to the pizza flavor, but feel free to leave them out if you’re looking to make these vegetarian! Add any of your favorite pizza toppings!

Step 4: Heat butter in a sauté pan over medium heat and cook the roll ups seam side down for 1-2 minutes or until golden. Continue sautéing the rollups on each side until golden all over.

Tips and Tricks

  • Seam Side Down: Cooking the roll ups seam side down first is really important. This way the cheese melts a little and serves as a “glue” in a way so the rolls stay rolled up.
  • Add Your Favorite Toppings: There’s no right or wrong way to make pizza roll ups! Leave out the pepperoni for the vegetarians. Or add any other ingredients you normally love on pizza (keeping in mind that you still need to be able to roll these up). Try sautéed onions and mushrooms (diced), black olives or even some browned ground sausage!
  • Serve Immediately: After you cook these, you’ll want to serve them as soon as possible to take advantage of the ooey gooey cheese that melts inside.
