This Chocolate Banana Nice Cream is super healthy and ready in minutes! You’ll be hard pressed to tell the difference between this and the real thing.
I consider myself pretty healthy, but my husband takes it to an even higher level. He’s more of a au natural guy where I’ve still got a healthy amount (pun intended) of “if it comes from a box or can it’s all right with me” in me. Yes, I’m all about making things homemade as often as possible, but with so much keeping me busy, it’s not always a realistic goal. For example, as much fun as it is to make homemade ice cream, more times than not I throw my arms up and grab the Stonyfield from the freezer for me and the kids.
I don’t know if there’s something in the water or if a witch cast a spell on him, but my hubby has been diving in the kitchen more and more lately, coming up with a list of recipes that are actually really yummy! He’s been making this version of homemade ice cream that tastes unbelievably delicious, even to someone like me who wants the real deal.
The kids certainly can’t tell the difference and hubby says if he didn’t know better, he wouldn’t be able to either — and this man knows his ice cream. But the best part is that instead of needing an ice cream maker or having to wait hours for the ice cream to freeze, his version is ready in less than a minute, is totally healthy and the kids love helping him make it!
Nice Cream is one of our favorite things to make in our house. When we’re craving something cold and creamy, especially when it gets warm outside, we switch off between this recipe and Rainbow Nice Cream, Green Nice Cream, and Coco-Blue Nice Cream! They’re all super easy to make and have ingredients that are actually good for you!

Chocolate Banana Nice Cream
Ingredients
- 6 frozen bananas, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup almond milk or milk of choice
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients in a blender.
- Puree on a medium setting for 15-20 seconds, using the tamper of your blender to push down or stopping to push down with a spatula. You can this to be a fast process so the ice cream doesn’t melt.
- Scrape down the sides and puree again. Repeat the process until the mixture is smooth like frozen yogurt/ice cream.** Sprinkle with favorite toppings! ***
- Serve.****
- * Here’s a great way to freeze bananas! Place them in a Ziploc bag (make sure to lay the slices out flat in the bag when you freeze so they don’t stick together) and leave them in the freezer so you can always make this treat on a moment’s notice.
- ** Use the lowest setting to puree to avoid the ice cream from getting too loose and so it has more of a true ice cream texture.
- *** You can top with granola, hemp seeds, sprinkles, berries, chopped nuts, dye free chocolate candies and more.
- **** To make nice cream even more firm, place in a pyrex or baking dish and freeze for up to 3 hours to resemble ice cream.
Its blazing hot here in Sydney, and we made this yummy treat today and was a hit with young and old alike!!! We are definitely going to do it again and also do a fruit version too! Thanks so much Catherine

Yum! Just made this (in the middle of December no less) and it’s so good and easy! I had to add some milk to get it to blend, but that was the only tweak. Well, that and I left out the strawberries since I didn’t have any. Will try them next time.

My daughter loves it!!!
this sounded so good and I wanted to believe it would work, but with hardly any liquid in it, things don’t really get to moving around much in a blender and was forced to blend on high for a few seconds to get the strawberries incorporated…ended up with a smoothie . Still good flavors though.
this is such a great idea! so creative, it turned into like a soft serve ice cream, i absolutely loved it, and my wee one did too! Thanks for the awesome recipes 🙂
Well, my kids weren’t a big fan of this. I thought it was delicious. I guess they were expecting more of an ice cream flavor rather than a smoothie flavor. Oh well, more for me!!
My son is super picky and won’t even touch fruit. I made this last night and he loved it. It’s super healthy too with the greek yogurt and I used pure raw honey for extra benefits.
Yes 🙂
I have unsweetened cocoa powder. Is that what I should use here? Thanks!
I love this! I’ve never heard of this before. I tried it out today and it was a hit with the whole family. My blender also had a little difficulty with the frozen fruit but after scraping down a few times, it still worked out well. Thanks for all your great ideas.
Pure awesome-wee-ness. My blender couldn’t take the frozen bananas/strawberries but the mini-processor worked perfectly!
I made this tonight and it is soooo good. Instead of the yogurt (I’m vegetarian) I used almond milk. Great recipe!
Hi M, My daughter is allergic to dairy and I’ve been looking for an alternative to the yogurt that my other daughter eats. Can you please share with me the name of the soy yogurt. I haven’t been able to find anything of the sort. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
