The Ingredients

What makes this healthy kale smoothie taste like ice cream? The magic is in these ingredients:

  • Bananas and dates: Add natural sweetness and balance the greens.
  • Cashews: Create a rich, creamy texture.
  • Ice: Gives it that frozen, ice-cream-like consistency that both kids and adults love.

  1. Put all of the ingredients into your blender (in the order listed in the recipe card) and puree for about a minute, until smooth and creamy. Tweak flavors to taste.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use ripe bananas for maximum natural sweetness.
  • Soak cashews ahead of time for an extra smooth texture if you have the time.
  • Adjust the amount of ice for thicker or more pourable consistency.
  • With a conventional blender, you’ll get the smoothest consistency if you use maple syrup or chop the dates finely.

Comments

  1. Our latest go to smoothie recipe is a few cups of spinach, 2 cups coconut water, 1 banana, 1 orange and 1 cup frozen strawberries, Yum!!!

    Love the vitamix!!!

Quick question about the recipe, says cashews soaked. How long do you recommend soaking for this recipe?

  2. The guys in my family (young and old) would not touch a smoothie, no matter what is in it. According to them, only water belongs in a cup (yes, no milk or juice either….). So I end up using the blender mostly for soups.
I cook chicken with lots of carrots, parsnips, onions, celery, zucchini or whatever else I might have and feels right and then blend all veggies with the broth and some spice (e.g. ginger). I serve it with croutons. Yum!

  3. Almond milk, peanut butter, banana, ice & Juice Plus complete chocolate powder! YUM.

  4. I like recipes but usually use what I have in the fridge or freezer. Love green smoothies, but don’t always have green produce, so I make a apple, banana, pineapple and orange drink. It is so good and frothy!!

  5. I have to have this book!! My favorite smoothie is banana, nut butter, dates, almond milk, avocado and raw cacao powder.. Mmm Hmm!!

  6. Almond milk, almonds, frozen spinach, leeche, and pineapple.
I’m excited to try ‘taste like ice cream kale smoothy’ with my little girl

  7. Your Green Monster Smoothie from Weelicious changed the way my toddler eats! It’s our favorite!
