Why I Love This Tropical Green Smoothie
- Delicious Tropical Flavor: While this smoothie may look vibrant green, it doesn’t taste “green” in any way, shape or form. Instead it has a tasty tropical flavor from the mango and pineapple that’s totally addicting. That means kids will love it too!
- Nutrient Dense: Packed with spinach and kale this smoothie provides essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are a boost for your overall health. Leafy greens are always an essential ingredient in my smoothies.
- Protein-Packed: Adding vanilla protein powder to this smoothie gives it a boost of protein to keep you feeling full, satisfied and ready to take on the day ahead.
The Ingredients

- Mango and Pineapple: I always keep frozen mango and pineapple ready to go, but fresh works too. These fruits give the smoothie the delicious flavor and mask the taste of the healthy greens entirely.
- Kale and Spinach: Kale is packed with vitamins A, C, and K, and provides powerful antioxidants that support overall health and reduce inflammation. Spinach is rich in iron and folate, promoting healthy blood and supporting brain function. Just like in this Tastes-Like-Ice-Cream Kale Smoothie, you don’t taste the greens – I promise!
- Banana: You can add half a banana for some extra sweetness and nutrition. Bananas are another fruit I keep in the freezer ready to go. Frozen bananas make smoothies extra creamy! If you prefer a smoothie without banana, you can leave the banana out of this recipe.
- Protein Powder: Use your favorite vanilla protein powder or collagen peptides in this smoothie. I have a few of my favorites listed below if you’re needing help deciding!
- Milk of choice: Choose your favorite milk whether it’s cow’s milk, almond milk, oat milk or any other plant-based milk. You can make Homemade Almond Milk and Homemade Oat Milk too if you want!
Tips for This Smoothie
- Use Frozen Fruits: Using frozen mango and pineapple helps create a thick, frosty texture without needing ice. You can also use frozen banana for even more creaminess.
- Adjust Sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, add a little honey or a couple of dates.
- Customize Your Greens: Feel free to adjust the amount of spinach and kale according to your taste preference. If you’re new to green smoothies, and feeling hesitant, maybe start with less and gradually increase the amount.
- Turn it Into Dessert: Sometimes I make my smoothie extra thick by using less milk and taking the tamper on my blender to push everything down as I blend. You can eat it with a spoon this way making it almost like dessert!

FAQs
If you don’t have vanilla protein powder, you can substitute it with plain or another flavored protein powder you have on hand. Alternatively, you can add Greek yogurt or a nut butter like almond or peanut butter for an additional protein boost. Just keep in mind that this might slightly change the flavor and texture of the smoothie.
Yes, you can use fresh mango and pineapple instead of frozen. Keep in mind, using frozen fruits helps create a thicker and colder smoothie without needing ice. If you use fresh fruits, you might want to add a few ice cubes to achieve a similar creamy texture.
