Why I Love This Recipe
- Delicious Tropical Flavor: While this smoothie may look vibrant green, it doesn’t taste “green” in any way, shape or form. Instead it has a tasty tropical flavor from the mango and pineapple that’s totally addicting. That means kids will love it too! Want more “green” recipes? Try Spinach Cake Muffins or this Green Mac and Cheese!
- Greens in Every Glass: I put leafy greens in almost every smoothie I make. Spinach blends in so completely that you’d never know it’s there, and it’s the easiest way to get more greens into your day.
- Protein-Packed: Adding vanilla protein powder to this smoothie gives it a boost to keep you feeling full, satisfied and ready to take on the day ahead.
The Ingredients

- Mango and Pineapple: I always keep frozen mango and pineapple ready to go, but fresh works too (just add a few ice cubes for thickness). These two are what give the smoothie its bright tropical flavor.
- Spinach: My go-to green for smoothies. It blends in completely and the tropical fruit does all the talking, so you get the greens without the “green” flavor.
- Protein Powder: Use your favorite vanilla protein powder or collagen peptides in this smoothie. I have a few favorites listed below if you need help deciding. If you don’t have any, a spoonful of Greek yogurt or nut butter works too, though it’ll change the flavor and texture a bit.
- Milk of choice: Choose your favorite milk whether it’s cow’s milk, almond milk, oat milk or any other plant-based milk. You can make Homemade Almond Milk and Homemade Oat Milk too if you want!
- Banana (optional): You can add half a banana for some extra sweetness and nutrition. Bananas are another fruit I keep in the freezer ready to go. Frozen bananas make smoothies extra creamy! If you prefer a smoothie without banana, you can leave the banana out of this recipe.
How to Make Tropical Protein Greens Smoothie

Step 1: Place all ingredients in a blender.

Step 2: Blend until smooth.
Tips for This Smoothie
- Use Frozen Fruits: Using frozen mango and pineapple helps create a thick, frosty texture without needing ice. You can also use frozen banana for even more creaminess.
- Adjust Sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, add a little honey or a couple of dates.
- Customize Your Greens: Feel free to adjust the amount of spinach according to your taste preference. If you’re new to green smoothies, and feeling hesitant, maybe start with less and gradually increase the amount.
- Turn it Into Dessert: Sometimes I make my smoothie extra thick by using less milk and taking the tamper on my blender to push everything down as I blend. You can eat it with a spoon this way making it almost like dessert!
